Beginning June 6, 2007, our friends in Japan will have the option to purchase PlayStation Network prepaid cards for use with the PlayStation Store. The Japanese PlayStation Network cards comes in denominations of 10,000 yen (approx.USD82), 5,000 yen (approx.USD41), 3,000 yen (approx.USD24) and 1,000 yen (approx.USD8.20) and will be sold at 52,000 convenience stores (such as LAWSON and FamilyMart) and post office ATMs nationwide. At the moment, these PSN prepaid cards will be useable only on the PS3 but it should include PSP support in the near future.

An update to the PSP system software was made available today and it includes the following changes:

NETWORK
★ Support has been added to allow remote play (connect a PSP system to a PS3 system) over the internet in [Remote Play].
★ [Communication Settings] has been added as an option to the [Remote Play] menu.
★ [RSS Channel Guide] has been added as a feature under [RSS Channel].

NW-A805/A806/A808 Firmware Update 1.02

A new firmware update for the NW-A608/A607/A605 is available as of May 24, 2007 from Sony. The firmware update is of version 1.02 and amount to approximately 10,407 KB.

Problems fixed with this firmware 1.02:
★ Noise may occur when user activates Equalizer or VPT (Surround), and playback.
★ On rare occasion, user cannot operate the player when playing back a transferred MP3 file.

Affected units:
Network WALKMAN NW-A805/A806/A808 with firmware version less than or equal to 1.01.

Scores of companies are betting there’s gold in helping go-go commuters and road warriors catch the latest episodes of 24 and Grey’s Antatomy. Apple downloads movies to iPods. Cell phone carriers stream TV shows to handsets. Sling Media’s Slingbox connects users to their home TVs from any Web-enabled handheld.

But a company uniquely positioned just a few years ago to be among the front-runners in the nascent mobile-video category is conspicuously missing, said James McQuivey, a Forrester Research analyst. Sounding a little like Marlon Brando, McQuivey argues that Sony, with the PlayStation Portable (PSP), should have been a contender. He notes that Apple’s iTunes has sold 50 million TV shows, seized a huge market lead and proven people will watch video on small screens.
