An Extra Million, And Counting

According to the recent Q3 Fiscal Year 2006 investor reports (link), Sony has sold 5.5 million Walkman devices up to October 2006. In Fiscal Year 2005, they only sold 4.5 million, marking a significant pattern of growth. The final numbers for FY06 won’t be published till March or so of this year, but at this rate it is fair to say that the company will probably sell another couple million in this timespan. Perhaps Sony has found a comfortable niche by mass producing flash units with various functionality instead of delving in the high-capacity arena. Congrats to the Connect and Personal Audio teams for this progress.

Congrats to walkman team and evryone at atraclife.

s7 will bring more sales.

but ipods are selling atleast four times more than walkman.

walkman team,
this is a good start but
#1 rectify all the problems listed here in atraclife
#2 give big marketing push
#3 bring the much coveted video walkman soon

This will make sure walkman no 1 again.
Soundquality wise walkman(s7 particularly) is the undisputed King.

Just like Sony once said, this will be a battle that can’t be won in a day.
Anyway, this is a positive progress like how SonyEricsson is doing well.
Congrats to Walkman team and also atraclife.

Hm - good news for Sony, and I think well-deserved too. The sports-series Walkman was quite successful, I believe, and the s700 series definitely played to Sony’s strength.

Here’s hoping that they continue the upward trend.

This probably includes the CD Walkman which still by far outsells all other types.

Vladstone, this does not include CD Walkmans. FY 2006 investor reports specifically says HDD and Flash based memory portable audio with 5.5 million units.
