Acknowledging the Master, Sony Releases iPod Sound System

Sony has released an iPod compatible sound system/dock in a rather unusual acknowledgement to the superior portable audio experience held by Apple. With sufficient power to fill your dorm room or small office with a mediocre-quality sound experience, this $249USD gem might just blackjack Bose’s offering as its $50 cheaper than the aforementioned competition. Nonetheless, it seems if the CPF design is rather ubiqitous, as previous products in the same model line have a similiar appearance and specifications.

This dock supports 1st and 2nd Generation Nano, 5th Generation Video, 4th Generation Color, 4th Generation or 1st Generation Mini iPod models.

“A rather unusual acknowledgement to the superior portable audio experience held by Apple.”
The sound quality from the iPod is far from superior, in fact the only thing that is arguably better than that of its rivals is the control system (i.e the click wheel), but even that is overrated.
The sound quality of Sony’s own mp3 players is in fact considered by many to be superior to that of the iPod’s.
So there.

Dan,

There is alot of ways I could respond to your comment and spark an iPod vs. Sony debate. That is not my intention; however, one cannot ignore the massive market share held by Apple in this day and age. Their ability to retain and grow this massive share of users is through a simple, easy to use unified software interface both on the computer and on their portable devices. Sony’s offerings in the past have been erratic, such as the Connect Player debacle. The overall experience of the Apple iPod is superior to Sony because it is relatively easy for anyone from any walk of life to use the iPod and that is why they have such strong control over the market.

You must understand that Ishii and myself are some of the largest supporters of the Sony audio product line. We fight hard to ensure that all people who have such devices will have a positive experience.

I’ve always been a supporter of Sony audio, and I agree. How could Sony lose any more dignity? From my opinion, Sony players look so much better than Ipods do. Come on Sony, I’m rooting for you! Kick it in gear!

I fully agree to Evan! I’ve had all kinds of Walkmen in the past, from Mini Disc to DAT, Memory Stick and Harddisk. But the Sonic Stage User Experience was really bad in the past, gladfully it has changed a lot.

I have moved to the Sony Ericsson party. Now I have the W950i with 4GB flash memory on board and SE manged to give that “Apple” feeling to the folks. They sold much much more Walkman Phones than Sony sold Walkmen. Perhaps Sony should focus to craft an ATRAC compatible Walkman Killer Phone with that great kicking the ass “Walkman 2.0″ software, the great sound quality - and a great great SS Software. All in all it could be the killer package to vanish Apples supremacy. Because that natural bundle: A phone and a music player is the future!!!

Make this the last such device.
If I was CEO of SONY, this would never see the light of day.
Only manufacture WALKMAN docking stations.
At all price points.

Go SONY.
Chin up!
