Sony is planning to offer a new limited edition Playstation 2 in the next few weeks, and will offer two new versions of its PSP portable game device next spring, according to Paul-Jon McNealy, an analyst with American Technology Research.

The pending arrival of a limited edition PS2 has been discussed on many gaming and gadget blogs. Engadget earlier this week reported that a silver-colored PS2 launches October 24. The site says only 500,000 of the new version of the console will be produced.

More interesting is the pending refresh of the PSP. McNealy says there will be two new models: One with a hard-disk drive and one with no drive but with “a significant amount of flash memory on board.” He expects the hard-drive model to be priced at $199 or above, and the flash model under $199.

While we are still on the topic of ‘phones, Sony will be offering another variant on November 10, 2006 – the MDR-KX70LW like the upcoming MDR-D333LW will feature a convenient recoiling cord mechanism. In addition, the canal-type KX70LW will also feature a carabiner along with a safety cord to secure your favorite Walkman companion. The MDR-KX70LW has a MSRP of 6,195 yen (approx. USD$52) and will be available in two color schemes: black and white.

Sony has revealed today, yet another noise cancelling canal-type earphone for the 4th quarter. The new noise cancelling earphone, the MDR-NC32NX will be set for sale on November 10, 2006 with a MSRP of 12,390 yen (approx. USD$104). In addition, it will be available in two color schemes: black and white along with a neck strap; and your favorite portable audio device can be attached onto the neck strap for safe keeping.

According to Sony, the MDR-NC32NX is identical in performance to the MDR-NC22 with a frequency response and noise control frequency response of 8-22,000Hz and 50-1,500Hz respectively.

As a follow up to our previous report on the new range of EX series canal-type earphones, we would like to bring to your attention to more details regarding Sony’s new mid and lower tier EX series – the MDR-EX85SL, MDR-EX52SL and MDR-EX32LP/SL. These aforementioned EX series canal-type earphones will be available for sale on November 10, 2006 with a MSRP of 6,195 yen (approx. USD$52), 3,675 yen (approx. USD$31) and 3,098 yen (appox. USD$26) respectively.

MDR-EX85SL

As we have reported previously, the MDR-EX85SL has been designated as a budget version of the MDR-EX90SL by Sony. Employing the same driver unit as the 90SL, Sony’s latest addition of “EX Monitor” MDR-EX85SL will be available in four color schemes: blue, white, violet and red.

To reflect the reduction in price, some different parts were used for the MDR-EX85SL to reduce its production cost relative to the MDR-EX90SL. In addition, the exclusive quality and control system instituted for the MDR-EX90SL will be excluded as well – where SQ is being inspected individually before final shipment.
