For those of us that prefer managing our library on the PC, can these systems play songs stored in SonicStage over the (W)LAN?
I think Sony ought to include that ability in the PS3!

Very interesting device. Pricey, but having all your content available without use of a PC is always intriguing to me. I read all the specs and one thing comes to mind…. no Hi-MD support? Am I reading the translation properly? Is Sony serious? It’s been out for almost 3 years and no Hi-MD? C’mon now.

Otherwise, I’d love to snap one up. :)

It’s quite possible. For your reference, SonicStage CP 4.0 is pre-installed on these NetJukes.

Unfortunately, the NAS-D50HD/NAS-M70HD/NAS-M90HD’s MD Module does not support Hi-MD playback. However, you can playback Hi-MD songs via its line-in, USB (i.e. A608, S700F/S600) or uploaded Hi-MD files within its HDD.

I have to agree with doclloyd, no Hi-MD support seems ludicrous. Is Sony doing everything it can to kill MD? It sure seems that way.

I can’t belive it !! no HI-MD support!

Wow I really like the concept and design… but it is WAY too expensive!!!

MDX-400 (17:12:46) :

At these price points they should all have Hi-MD, with the M70HD adding DVD support and the M90HD perhaps adding Blu-Ray to that. If they had those things at least then the prices would be justified.

However nothing like that exists and not even the $800 (!) model has even so much as Hi-MD. So yeah, I agree with everyone else–waaay too expensive. I wonder if Sony is on crack or something???

Well, those figures are just Yen to US Dollar conversion. As we know, things are more expensive in Japan and considerably cheaper in US.
Anyway, whether the price is cheap or expensive matters only if they relase in US.
Also, it is important to note consumer behaviors differ in especially E. Asia (Japan, Korea) to Western Society (US).
Statistically, people Japan tend to pay more to get top electronics whereas general US consumers tend to go for lower price when buying electronics. This has been one of the reason in past and possibly even now that many Asian companies are hasitant in releasing some gadgets (i.e. laptops and cell phones).

I agree with the earlier poster.

If you want portable music, sure, download it and dock an MP3 player.

If you want quality music, it must have a Hi-MD slot.

I guess there are other Sony units out there with this function and Sony is promoting its new range of MP3 units, which is frankly what most people will buy instead of the fantastic Hi-MD.

That will leave the “quality sound” MD recordists/users to buy the specialized Sony unit for this. It makes commercial sense.
