New Network WALKMAN: NW-S203F and NW-S205F Sport Series

NW-S205F

It has come to our attention that Sony will be adding a new sport series to its world renown fleet of cylindrical ATRAC devices this coming September/October. The new series will be known as the NW-S20x – featuring the NW-S203F (in silver with 1GB capacity) and NW-S205F (in black with 2GB capacity). The S series are metal in construction, water-resistant and employs a new high visibility 1-Line Organic EL display. The completely new design also feature a unique “collar” knob for music navigation, FM tuner, G-Sensor functions, creating playlist on the go and pedometer.

Note: US Consumers can pre-order the NW-S203F and NW-S205F from Amazon.com for USD$119.99 and USD$149.99 respectively.

Update: We have recieved word that there will be a 512mb variant dubbed NW-S202. Furthermore, all units in this series will be available in black, pink, or silver.

WOW! This looks really sleek! Much better than the beans. Sounds like a really good deal if the 2GB is really $150 (the link to amazon stated the S205 as 1GB, maybe a typo?)

Me want one! :D

Our source has confirmed that the NW-S205F has a 2GB capacity. The info at Amazon.com is likely a typo.

I wish there is more info about this player. But as for the look, this is very nice. Hopefully, the sound quality will be good as its look.
By the way, can this “new high visibility organic EL display” be read under the sun light?

Is this the start of Sonys huge assult for xmas 06. Surely they will also have colour screen flash and HDDs, out in october. The NWA range is defo being thrown out!

Unless Sony releases a newer version of SonicStage before its debut, the S series will be bundled with SonicStage CP 4.0.

Here’s the only question that matters…

Will I be forced to use Sonicstage or some other bullshit? When I can access a Sony device as plain old USB storage I’ll buy. All the design sense in the world can’t make up for piss poor usability.

Your operating system will recognize most Sony ATRAC devices as a removable media without the need of SonicStage.

I just came over here via this trackback article:

They said that the Amazon pages had just been pulled and when I tried your links, it seems to be true. They’re gone!! Wonder why?

And I had hopes that Sony was going to actually compete with the iPod this year.
But it does look nice, I just hope that there are more devices to be announced. (30GB iPod rival, 8-10GB Nano rival)

[...] New sports sony walkman with a built-in pedometer- obviously in reply to apple+nike’s new ipod nano accessory that adds the same type fo function. But, because it’s not an ipod it won’t be successful (that’s always a good argument to make given the circumstances). I think it looks interesting- but sony should really start moving away from the rod and tube and curvy glassy look- it’s futuristic, but not in an attractive way. [...]
