Has anyone tried this Japanese version of Update ..how is it over previous versions of Connect?

20 04 2006
Ishii (22:46:33) :

I have indeed. With the new update, CP is significantly faster - takes about 4-5 seconds to load (for your reference, my ATRAC library amount to about 32GB).

Stunned and amazed !!!!!……. has Sony finally cracked it ????
Starts up even faster than SS, ripped a CD and transferred it without corrupting anything, i’m still pinching myself !!

21 04 2006
Rob C (03:32:23) :

And it scrolls smoothly as well !

Zizone (03:43:56) :

ahh yes. finally 352kbps support!

MiG (04:44:40) :

This runss extremely fast, and tiny http is finally in shape, using hardly any cpu usage. still uses 100mb but its really a good app now. :)

I’m in Canada. Do you think its OK to download the update from Sony Europe or should I wait until it’s posted on the Sony Canada site?

Finally seems to work :-) Displays loads of info when it’s doing things now which helps a lot!
Runs fast too yay :-)

You can definitely utilize the European version without any significant issues.

Excellent, Wow it’s so fast the import of my library is amazingly quick, well done Sony.

willykyu (09:55:33) :

Well, it’s a good step! though, it’s still the same program with the same lack of everything…

+Japanese CDs imports now WORK. Very, VERY cool.
+The widow size is remembered when CONNECT opens
+Transfer is now fast!
+navigation looks smooth so far

-Still no way to play gapless through the player, wich is kind of stupid for a gapless format like atrac, and for concerts and mixes…
-Still no real clear dialogue boxes to explain what happening (for ex : progress bar) when importing.
-No support for other walkmans than A series
-No tagging options like SS (remembers the previous entries etc) and no possibilities to change a whole album inormation (there’s not even a copy-past function anymore…
-still no option to get infos from cddb for an atrac/mp3 etc nor album cover search (like in SS)
-etc. etc.

Hopefully, the announdes mix of SS and CP out in the nexte months will bring the best of the two players!!

Zizone (10:07:47) :

I am just wondering why updating CP won’t update Auto update version so you have to update separately…
And also… my auto update didn’t pick up this recent CP update…

Other than few more issues willykyu picked up, Connect Player works great!!! I just wish Sony will bring this level of software on a launch date in future.

Mark Gillespie (03:35:35) :

seems to work faster, but still chock full of nasty bugs. I have to format my NW-A3000 it seems, after moving from SonicStage, just to get the tracks on the device to play correctly in Connect.

Mad King Soup (11:39:45) :

Well about chuffing time! Actually, I’ll hold off on the praise just for now and gently thank Sony for paying attention.
It still slows everything else on my computer down while it’s actually doing anything (like starting up!)
It still looks like a 5 year old designed the UI.
“tinyhttp” still uses staggeringly vast amounts of memory and the CPU.

But at least Sony are clearly trying to do something to alleviate our frustration with their insultingly poor software, so, well, roll on “Connect x SonicStage”…

23 04 2006
Joe (11:56:15) :

I think this is a pretty good update. It runs smoothly on my computer, which is a very average spec. I have to disagree about the UI, ‘cos I really like it. Especially compared to SS. If it added the ability to tag your files the way that SS could, then it would be perfect.

23 04 2006
Beethovenian (18:22:07) :

I installed it just to test. It’s indeed much more stable, and it doesn’t slow down my computer in a noticeable way. But why it doesn’t recognize tags that you edited in SonicStage? (At least not year, which means you can’t customize that browsing option in the NW-A series.) And by the way, where does it get the information for album artist? Since you don’t have that tag field in SonicStage, how does it fill it out? They should add masstagger options, like in SonicStage.

23 04 2006
Ascariss (20:19:17) :

Of course there is year in the new A series, you can also browse the units by year and also sort by year in the program.

23 04 2006
Beethovenian (20:50:18) :

What I meant was that tags edited in SonicStage are not completely recognized by CP. Particularly the case of year. If I edit all years in SonicStage according to what I want (for instance, putting the original release date in an album, instead of its re-release; or the composition date for a classical piece), CP will show all blank and then try to fill with information from Gracenote. Then, what it doesn’t find will remain blank. So in the A series that browsing function will be lost, in a way. And it’s not really viable to edit in CP, since it has to be done track by track.

23 04 2006
Free4 (22:40:18) :

why can’t you just stick with sonic stage sony and maintain one piece of software on a more regular basis based on customer requests? Your only making your own life harder. puh.. I have both an a series and a nw series I don’t want 2 databases installed but I want all functionality on both machines surely this should be doable? Unless your software engineers are crap.

Comment by Iyare — April 24, 2006

CONNECT Player only works with the NW-A Series (A3000/1000/600). It does not support the VAIO Pocket (VGF-AP1/AP1L).

perky321 (12:40:29) :

I don’t believe it, it actually works and works well, I’ve got a huge amount of playlists set up and it even works fast, it transfers tracks fast, thanks sony seems like a good job! Now all you need to do is somehow go back in time and give me this version 5-6 months ago when I brought it and everything will be fine:)

24 04 2006
metal (14:52:50) :

The Traditional Chinese version is available for auto-update and wow it does greatly improve the performance speed. This may give me back some faith to the program and now I will try to see some ripping and transfer of music to my A1000.

25 04 2006
willykyu (02:55:18) :

Ok, I’m using this new update since the day of its release, and I’m starting to have some problems.
The soft works fine now, it’s a lot smoother, transfer speed is fast etc.

I sync my library with my A-3000, it worked for several albumsn and then: nothing. I initialized the device and tried again. Now, it is impossible to trasnfer anything on the A-3000 from CP. I tried then in SS 3.4, it didnot work either. Then I re-initialized the device, and then it worked in SS. But still impossible to transfer through CP…

I noticed some other issues with importing music from a CD. Sometimes CP doesn’t recognise any CD, and I had to reboot the program.

But I must say that for the rest of it, everything seems to work fine. No such transfer problem with the A-608.

I had also confirmation from Connect service that a new complete version of Sonictsgae with CP functions will be available next month. Hope they’re right.

I loved this for a week then it crashed-wouldn’t let me put any songs on it. So I unistalled it, deleted my library, initailsed the device redid everything. It all came back-could put song on etc. but no artist link-would only update new stuff. Any ideas.

28 04 2006
perky321 (15:07:49) :

I assume the artist link database was causing the problems as it could be really large linking all the tracks to each other that you have in the library so must have taken it out to fix it maybe?!

[...] Sony recently updated their Connect Player software (to version 1.0.04.16100) and I’m very glad to report that it’s a huge, huge improvement. It now runs at a decent speed on my fairly modest Athlon 1800+ system and appears to be stable. Nice one Sony. [...]

My thoughts here.

Alfablue (02:22:50) :

I was amazed when it started up in 5 seconds! And the scrolling…!!!

Credit to Sony for persevering for what looked like a dead duck 6 months ago. Okay they sold us a bad deal originally but they do appear to be trying to make ammends. Lets hope they learn the lesson and release finished products in future. I think it is in part the pressure to innovate and compete. Of course Apple have problems with their products too (more so with hardware, I know so many people with dead iPods, and what about the scratchy Nano’s?), but the public are very forgiving of them.

relativelycomputerilliterate (09:56:24) :

Can anyone help me? After randomly crashing and deleting all the music from my walkman, Connect player now won’t start up. I’ve tried reinstalling it tons of times (with the update) but when you click on the icon it just hangs on ‘initialzing library’. Eventually it has to be shut down with ctrl-alt-delete. Tinyhttp is using 100%cpu. Am i doomed never to listen to my music again?

12 05 2006
Chris Wyatt (07:06:41) :

Assuming you have XP and Windows is installed on C:

Sounds like a corrupt database. Try uninstalling Connect Player and see if it leaves any crap behind in this directory:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Sony Corporation

This will delete the database but won’t delete your music, you can then reimport everything once you’ve got it up and running again.

Alternatively, you can download Sonicstage and import all of your music into there, sadly track information sometimes screws up when you import between the two programs :( .

14 05 2006
James (15:10:10) :

Yep - seems to work a lot better than the version supplied with the walkman, but still a few bugs…

Also - it annoys me that people are saying thanks to sony for this - IT SHOULD HAVE WORKED OUT OF THE BOX!!!

Anyway, i guess at least it works a lot better now.

Shame they don’t just upgrade the firmware on the device to allow you to drag n drop onto the device - then if the firmware detects that any files have changed it re populates the database itself! (no need to “convert” .mp3 to .oma anymore! (even though they’re still .mp3’s!

But then we wouldn’t need the crappy software would we!

Sony lost a fortune on these new walkmans - so many people just took them back when they couldn’t get the bloody software to work! (Hope they’ve done a better job with the ps3!!!!!)

IMHO!

James.

Softwares much better now! But there’s a problem! If you have two different sony mp3 player models (NW-E002 and AW-1000)well there isn’t a button or setting to detect other sony mp3 devices! (the sonic stage which came with my NW-E002 is pants and doesn’t even load)

mike (18:47:19) :

Hi, I got my NW-A3000 about 4 weeks ago loaded the latest version of Connect. It worked great, although when I updated the firmware it took for ages. Well, yesterday I switched it on and nothing! No database found although there should have been about 200+ tracks.

I reconnected to the Connect software but it would not update, even after resetting and reinitialising the HD. The HD seems to be formatted as a FAT 32, so reinitialised twice on the player and from Connect, but always appears as FAT 32.

Tried again today and lo - Connect recognises it. I loaded one track and it works. Now I don’t know what to do with it :-(
Anyone else had this problem?

Thanks
Mike

i cant seem to download a version of connect player that doesnt need an internet connection. Surly you can download connect player onto a disk then take it to a computer without internet and install it. Not every one has internet access. Sony must have accounted for this.
