MDR-EX90LP (Sony @ CES 2006)

Looks like the latest successor in the MDR-EX series has appeared at CES. Details are a little sparse, but I managed to learn from my favorite Sony representative that the MSRP should be $99.95USD. The ‘buds themselves will have 13.5mm Drivers to “allow wider dynamic range”, neodymium magnets, aluminum housing, and a “premium” leather case. These will be available in March, 2006. Picture after the jump..

[...] MDR-EX90, a sort of lovechild between the Shure E2s and Qualia bud. Hoping that some of the Qualia goodness and expertise has come filtered through down to Consumer Level. [...]

Hopefully the cord isn’t of cheap value, it better not be at 100 bucks.

Long as the sound quality is there, I money will be there. Actually, it’s nice see Sony is making high end earphones. Hopefully, they will release the specs soon.

totally! the cord better not be that crappy putty stuff they put on the ex51 and 71s because something that is this expensive shouldn’t have such a weak cord

I totally agree about the cord . I AM myself having my left cord of my ex71 a second layer of black tape to cover all the wholes and damages of the cord . Whereas , the situation is better for the right one , but it is ugly folded .

i would definitely buy this new one but only it has a better cord !

It looks like the same cheap rubber they used on the EX81 series. If that’s the case, I will definetly not be touching these. Could you possibly find out whats going on with the quality of rubber used on the rm-mc40elk remote, and earphones like the ex81, and by the looks of it, the ex90 too?? Theres no doubt that the rubber on the old remotes and that of stock buds is more durable, hands down.

RED BOOK (15:20:24) :

I’m a sony purist to the core (sort off) and although these look nice….never judge a book by its cover!

Headphone are hot, but remember, the qualia range was a covert release and sounds special..
(headphone+minidisc combo, i have heard both and they are only comparible to the best modded Ipod 4th generation or rudistor amp, headroom dac rigs, stax…)
. I have luckily had the chance to review the MDR-EX90SL and they are…..alright.

E888lp and sp from 10 years ago, EC5s and Sharp MD33 cant be touched. The E888’s are fragile, weak this and that but a decade on, the technology and design…timeless.(obviously depending on your music tastes and if u have an bog model;0(

gocheck em cause they are sposed to be deadstock but lots are still floating around.

can anyone tell me if the sapphire evaporated diaphram sony headphones are still about- to those who underdig this…?

I was shoping for new headphones for my IPod and stood there with 2 different sets in my hand. I origonaly purchased the Shure e2c, but when I tried them I took them straight back to the store. My $25 Sony set had a better sound.

I exchanged Shure set for the Sony MDR-EX90LP. When I got them home I put them on and when the bass hit I was hooked. Clean crisp highs and sweet lows.

Two big thumbs up from me.

Is the MDR-EX90LP’s wire symmetrical or lopsided?

I’ve seen them available, cannot decide whether to get the ex90 at HK$ 650 or the discontinued MDR E484 at HK$800.

I’ve used the e484 and i know the quality of it, has anyone used the EX90 yet.

If you like SONY sounds and can voice out the flagship model E484, I think you can try to get the E575B flagship brand new in Mongkok at HKD$750
