Connects2 Walkman Car Adapter (Sony @ CES 2006)

Fear not, those of you who expressed frustration yesterday from Sony’s iPod car adapter; Connects2 had a small display within the automotive section displaying a Walkman-compatible head (DIN) unit adapter. The test NW-A3000 that was hooked up to it had a dead battery within, but a user should be able to do all of the basic operations whilst driving (we doubt artist link and so forth would work). These are available now!

It’s about time. :)

OT: Any news whether the new car decks support seamless/gapless on AtracCD? Crutchfield already listed the new decks for sale, but no info on that, and no manuals yet from Sony support site.

You’re right. No wonder the connect2 name sounds familiar. This is not a Sony product.

so, any idea on what units EXACTLY it will be compatible with? I wonder if it would work with the nw-hd5.

I’m assuming this adapter is only compatible with Sony head units? Also, you say it’s available now, but where can it be purchased?

The unit is compatible with all Sony headunits with CD-changer control. Furthermore it is compatible with all sorts of Sony portable audio that can also be used with a remote. This means CD-walkmans, MD-walkmans and HDD-walkmans.

If the headunit has the CD-text feature that also works with the optional CD-changer which it is prepared for the Connect2 interface converts the text that is normally displayed on the remote of the walkman to CD-text so track/disc titles are also shown on the headunit in your car. Furthermore you can control all functions that you normally find on a remote of the walkman with the headunit.

Summarizing the functions of the interface:
- converts CD-changer commands to walkman-remote commands.
- converts remote-display-text to CD-text
- sends headphone audio to aux in of headunit.

Oh, I forgot: some people bought this interface via Halfords shops in the Netherlands.

Man… I still can’t connect my sony walkman e-507 because it only has a 3.5 mm and not the other remote control thing, right?

There are many different Connect2 adapators for different brands of car stereo and for different Walkman models.

I have the original Connect2 adaptor that was designed for NW-HD3. When NW-HD3 is connected you can control it via head unit controls. The track information shows on the head unit display. Very nice.

When I connected my NW-A3000 it all seems to work except for track information appearing on head unit. The new Connect2 adaptor obviously addresses this issue.

apart from sony headunits, is this compatible with any others? i have a nwhd5 and would prefer not to have a sony headunit if possible

Wow! Thats just what I’ve been looking for!

Hopefully this means if I get one of these adapters I will be able to use my Sony MZ-NH600 HiMD Minidisc with any CD changer compatible Sony head unit. I much prefer this idea than having to go out and buy an iPod.

Could anyone tell me if the head unit Sony Mex-1HD (the one from 2003 with a 10GB harddrive) is compatible with the newer Sony MP3 players or iPods that have a capacity of 20 or 30 GB?

Dan Burt (12:26:35) :

i have just bought a nw-a3000. is this connects2 cable compatible to control it from the head unit?
i have an alpine head unit that has a cd changer connector on the back, and i would also hope that it should be compatible with this also? they should be the same size/shape/etc??

if the above questions are all true, what is the EXACT product code, so i can slam in the face of the connects2 & unicar sales assistants.

hoping to hear good news

dan

Where can we get this adapter from, because i’ve heard that the currently available Connects2 cables only work with the Sony HD’s and track information does not show with the NW-A series. So is this one actually desing for the NW-A series and if so where is it available?

i’ve just bought a NW-A3000 and i drive a company car with standard factory fitted headunit… so, swapping the head unit is out of question… would i still be able to connect my walkman to the headunit via CONNECT2 or…?

I have a NW-A3000 Walkman and CDX-M8800 head unit, would this work with my set-up? Also, looking at the connects2 website, I take it I should be purchasing the CTASONWHD001 not the CTASONWHD002?

I’m hoping this thing or something like it will work for me. Here’s my question:

I have a 2003 Jeep Liberty. It is a Chrysler vehicle. it has stereo controls mounted on the steering wheel. It has a standard car stereo with cd, that provides text information.

I’m wondering, will this unit here allow me to use my NW-HD5 with my stereo, and still retain the same playing functionality that I have with my Hardrive player; like shuffle, playlists, etc.?

You may also e-mail me at AnthologyCT@aol.com

Thanking you in Advance,
Ricky
